Interpreter/Translator Training

Our Training
AVAZA strives to maintain the highest standards in the language service industry. Our interpreter/translator staff is trained and certified/qualified in accordance with industry standards.  Hundred of hours are dedicated to the development and training of our interpreter/translator in the various areas of their work.  Each candidate is required to undergo screenings, training and testing regardless of experience and level of education.  First, the candidate must prove competency in their primary or secondary language(s) through assessment tests prepared to meet industry standards on language proficiency.  These assessment tests comply with the standards set by the American Council on Teaching Foreign Languages (ACTFL) and recommended by the National Council on Interpreting in Health Care (NCIHC).  However, proficiency in both primary and secondary languages is not the only factor that may qualify bi-lingual persons to become an AVAZA interpreter – skills in brokering communication and professional conduct are also required.

Qualification Steps:

  • Must pass initial screening (legal residence – E-Verify, background checks, etc.)
  • Must undergo language assessment tests for both primary and secondary languages with guidance by the ACTFL and NCIHC
  • Must undergo mandated interpreter training workshop (candidates are given two chances to pass)
  • Must undergo all mandated training programs within a year of service
  • Must commit to monthly, quarterly and annual reviews

Selection of Personnel

Applicants submit their processed paperwork, including authorization to conduct background checks, confidentiality agreements, Business Associate, non-disclosure, non-solicitations, basic application and all other relevant documentation as well as resumes.  Depending on the position, the candidates are then vetted for qualification and submitted to interviews.  Personnel eventually selected and trained to perform on-site duties must commit to the appropriate vaccinations prior to working in health care settings.
If a candidate is applying for an interpreter or translator position, candidates must undergo the above procedures, at which point they can begin the language assessment and interpreter/translator training phases.  All qualified applicants are then selected, depending on language needs, at which point they must undergo the mandatory trainings.

911 Critical Incident Stress and Dispatch Training

Provided at OCI and certifies call center and OTP interpreters in Dispatch and Critical Incident Stress.

Focuses on developing the interpreter skill set.
